Slingo crosses bingo with a slot. You get a 5x5 grid of 25 random numbers and a single five-position reel beneath it. Each spin turns up numbers and symbols; any number matching the grid is marked off automatically.

Lines, ladder and the round itself

Mark five numbers on one line — horizontal, vertical or diagonal — and you have a Slingo. Each one moves you up the prize ladder printed beside the grid, so the reward comes from completed lines rather than from any single spin. A standard game has 12 win lines against 11 awards on the ladder, because the final number on the grid completes two lines at once.

A round is a fixed length: ten or eleven standard spins, depending on the title. That is the part that makes Slingo readable — you can see exactly how far the grid has left to go.

Symbols that change the grid

The reel carries more than numbers. Jokers let you mark any number in the row above; free spin symbols add a spin to the round; blocking symbols — devils in some titles — take a position out of play. In ladder games the cash prize rises with every Slingo completed, so a joker landing late in a round is worth far more than one landing early.

The decision that costs money

When the standard spins run out, the game offers extra spins. This is the only real decision in Slingo, and it is priced: the cost is shown on the spin button before you commit, it is calculated from your current grid position and the prizes still reachable, and it can be several times the original stake.

Extra spins are offered only while a bonus is still achievable on the next spin, which is why prices climb steeply near the top of the ladder. Set a figure before the round starts — the sum you paid to enter plus one extra spin, say — and stop there.
