The size of the slice varies. One published example routes around 8 per cent of each wager into the pool; another sets out a game where four progressive tiers account for 5.3 per cent of the return, leaving the base game paying 88.12 per cent.

That contribution is already inside the published return-to-player figure, so a headline RTP on a jackpot game is not comparable with a non-jackpot one: part of it is money you can only win by taking the jackpot itself.

Networked pools and how they land

Networked jackpots share one pool across many games or sites rather than sitting in a single machine, which is how the totals get large. A typical structure runs three tiers plus a separate mega tier seeded at a headline figure — £1,000,000 in one published example, with must-drop variants seeded at two million and guaranteed to pay before a deadline.

Most networked progressives in Britain trigger at random on any qualifying spin, with no combination to hit on the reels. That also means the top prize can land at the minimum stake the operator allows, and there is no such thing as a jackpot being “due”.

Some progressives require a side bet or a specific stake to enter the draw. If your spin does not qualify, the jackpot cannot pay you no matter what the screen shows, and that is the one detail worth reading in the rules panel before the first spin.

The stake ceiling applies as it does to every online slot in Great Britain: £5 per game cycle at 25 and over, £2 between 18 and 24, jackpot or not — the detail is in our note on stake limits. Treat the jackpot as the lottery ticket inside the game, and judge the slot on the other 90 per cent.
