It is a one-way road
Nothing comes back down the phone bill. Winnings have to leave by another route, so you will be asked for a debit card or bank account before the first withdrawal — and that second method needs to be verified in your own name. Set it up when you open the account, not when there is money waiting.
Two other things follow from paying this way. Charges land on a bill that someone else may read, and on a contract phone the cost is settled at the end of the month rather than at the moment of play. Neither is a fault; both are worth knowing before the statement arrives.
Where it sits against the card rules
Britain’s credit-card ban has applied since 14 April 2020 through licence condition 6.1.2, covering online betting, casino and bingo, high street and track bookmakers, and lotteries taking payments online or by telephone. Non-remote lotteries are the single exception, and the ban reaches credit cards used through e-wallets too.
Pay by mobile is not a credit card, so it sits outside that rule — but a contract bill is still deferred payment, and it deserves the same caution.
