From that date the Gambling Commission caps wagering requirements at 10 times the incentive, and a single offer may no longer bundle more than one type of gambling product. Both changes came out of the regulator’s “safer and simpler” promotions package.

The practical effect is blunt. Terms that once ran to 35, 40 or 50 times the bonus cannot be offered to British customers any more, and the deal you are shown has to sit inside one product category.

What the 10x cap means

The cap is set against the incentive amount. On a £20 bonus that is £200 of qualifying play before the bonus balance can be withdrawn — not the £700 to £1,000 that the old market normal produced.

Read the wording, because the arithmetic still depends on it. “10x bonus” and “10x deposit and bonus” are different sums: on a £10 deposit matched by a £10 bonus, the first is £100 of play and the second £200. Both sit inside the rules; only one is what most players assume.

One offer, one product

The second change bans incentives that cross product lines. The Commission names betting, bingo, casino and lottery as the categories, so a promotion cannot hand you casino credit for placing a bet or push bingo tickets onto a slots deposit.

There is one clarification worth knowing: the ban does not bite where the customer has full freedom of choice over which product the credit is spent on. An offer that simply gives you money and lets you decide is not a mixed-product promotion.

Reading an offer today

Check what the multiplier is applied to — bonus only, or deposit plus bonus.
Check the game weighting: slots usually count in full, table games far less.
Check the maximum bet allowed while wagering; breaching it is the most common reason a balance is voided.
Check the expiry window before you deposit, not after.
