Gambling Industry's Philanthropic Giving Hits New Highs

18 September 2026

The gaming industry's philanthropic activity is reaching unprecedented heights as major operators expand their charity partnerships, even as the sector faces scrutiny over social issues.

According to the American Gaming Association, gaming companies reported $450 million in charitable giving in 2022. This surpassed the 0.12% private-sector benchmark for philanthropic expenditure, marking a giving rate that was 40% higher than the corporate average.

The 2023 American Gaming Association report revealed a growing trend: operators' corporate philanthropy and community engagement initiatives show increased investment across the U.S. and globally. 91% of surveyed companies have implemented comprehensive recycling and energy efficiency programs, demonstrating environmental commitment. 73% have established hiring initiatives aimed at improving diversity and inclusion.

This growing thrust toward community engagement is visible in recent examples from major operators.

Flutter UKI's 2023 charitable activity, for example, shows significant growth from previous years. The company boosted its charitable funding, raising over £10 million for good causes. While most was contributed by customers, approximately £850,000 in staff donations supported cancer research and maternity care. Flutter UKI has pledged future investments focused on maternal health and pediatric oncology.

Some major players are concentrating their efforts in special events. Marina Bay Sands raised a record SG$8 million for charity in 2023. The funds came from the venue's annual Sands for Singapore Charity Festival, a prominent philanthropic showcase. Since its inception, it has contributed more than SG$60 million to local charities.

Matched fundraising efforts remain prevalent. The operator Midnite matched £20,000 in fan donations through their Brace Yourself campaign, doubling contributions for the Saints Foundation. Caesars Entertainment employs a three-part model, combining guest donations, foundation grants, and volunteer hours valued at 82,000. This approach generated over $90 million of the company's 2023 community investment.

Employee-led fundraising continues as a driving force. The 92-member Community Grant Council at MGM Resorts reviewed hundreds of applications and awarded 225 grants worth $5 million to nonprofits in 2023.

Across these initiatives, industry giving focuses heavily on community sports, youth development, addiction research, and programs aligning with sustainability goals. Philanthropy has become central to how gambling operators interact with communities, demonstrate social responsibility, and address rising CSR expectations.

Facing regulatory pressures and public scrutiny, this philanthropic trend represents part of a broader strategic response from leading operators.
